The administration Council of Romanian National Bank (BNR) decided to increase the monetary policy rate, from 10% to 10.25%, starting from August 1st, 2008.
Notably, this is the seven increase decided by BNR in the last year, the monetary policy rate has reached 10.25% from 7% (at the end of June 2007).

The 0.25 percent increase surprised the economic analysts, who were expecting the same level for the monetary policy rate. In their opinion, the growth was determined by BNR’s concerns regarding the inflation evolution.
